The last two weeks we have been learning about Community Helpers. We have read books about different tools/equipment, vehicles and hats different community helpers use. The books that we have read during our theme have mainly been non-fiction books. One of our goals that we work on is having children be able to identify non-fiction or fiction book. During music we learned songs about different occupations. Several of our activities tied in with the books that we read where we were matching the hat to the community helper or the tools to the community helper.

This week we have been learning about Thanksgiving. We have learned about the Pilgrims, the Mayflower and how the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims. We sequenced a story about this and made a story bracelet to help us remember. Our class started learning our songs for our Holiday Extravaganza which will be on Wednesday, December 18th. Please remember to send in your child's fruit on Monday, November 25th.

During our first week back we talked about the new year and we talked a little about resolutions or goals. We listened to the story Squirrel's New Year's Resolution. Squirrel made a goal to help someone every day! We also started our new theme about winter, snow and polar animals. Our class read many books about snow and winter activities. During some of those stories, we talked about how some animals migrate or hibernate in the winter. We sequenced how a snowman is made and also made a snowman glyph that will be on display in the hallway soon. We drew a snowman through a directed drawing activity and we will be working on painting those during the next couple of weeks. On Friday we played a game of roll and cover a Snowman Family, using pattern blocks to over different numbers. This was such a great activity that worked on so many different skills (shape recognition/identification, number identification, colors, counting and matching numbers). Next week we will begin talking about polar animals.
