We had a lot of fun with our pets at school this week! We talked a lot about how to take care of pets and we even made reports on what our specific pet would need to stay healthy. Hopefully we'll be able to show our reports if we are able to reschedule our Pet Show later in the year! We did take our pets on a walk around the school today and showed them the library, the gym, the bathrooms, and some other classrooms, as well as the office and we even introduced them to our reading buddies! Next week, we will begin a unit on spring weather and rainbows!

We need to work together to keep our community safe, clean, and fun! We also discussed if we might like to be a community helper when we grow up.

Next Friday, February 14th, kids may pass out valentine's if they choose. Students are making their Valentine boxes at home. Please let me know if you need a box to complete this project! We have 14 student in our class. If you would like your child to participate in this activity, please have them write their name on 14 valentine's to pass out. This week, we learned all about Groundhog's Day as well as the seasons of Winter and Spring. We learned that groundhogs are rodents that hibernate in the winter. We also learned that on Groundhog's Day, a special groundhog will come out of his hole. If it is a cloudy day, there will be no shadow and Spring weather will be on it's way! However, if it is a sunny day, the groundhog will see it's shadow, get scared, and run back into it's hole. Then there will be 6 more weeks of winter. We made a prediction graph of what we think will happen and it ended in a tie!

On another note, I wanted to let you all know how incredibly proud I was of our students with how they handled the power outage yesterday. We had to do a lot of things differently and they all did a great job of paying attention to and following all of the directions that were out of the ordinary. They were also all very, very patient while waiting for our buses which took MUCH longer than any of us had anticipated. Great job, 4K!

Our literacy goal this week was to sort and write letters S, G, and C.

Our math goal was to match shapes.

We also learned a little bit about animals that hibernate! See if your child can remember any hibernating animals that we learned about. We also had a LOT of fun painting snow with watercolors! Be sure to check out ClassDojo to see some pictures.

Students will be able to pass out Valentine's on February 14th for all who want to participate.  Please have your child sign each valentine, but do NOT address them to any specific child.  That way, everyone will be able to hand them out independently.  We have 13 students in our class.

We also did an experiment where students were able to feel ice water with a regular baggie on their hand and then with a blubber baggie on their hand to see how it protected them from the cold!

Our literacy goal this week was to practice rhyming.  See if you and your child can make some rhyming words over the weekend!
